  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) great northern beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chilies, drained
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and jalapeño pepper and cook for an additional minute.
  2. Add the chicken to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Add the cumin, chili powder, oregano, and cayenne pepper and stir to coat the chicken.
  3. Pour in the chicken broth, stirring to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Add the great northern beans and chopped green chilies and bring to a simmer.
  4. Cover the pot and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the sour cream and cilantro. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
